WATCH: KL Rahul misses simple run-out to dismiss Henry Nicholls in third ODI

KL Rahul misses simple run-out: The Indian wicket-keeper’s fumble behind the wickets proved costly for India.
During the third ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand in Mount Maunganui, India wicket-keeper Lokesh Rahul fumbled behind the stumps to miss a simple run-out chance to dismiss New Zealand opening batsman Henry Nicholls.
It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 12th over when New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill dabbed a delivery from India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on the off-side to sneak a single.
With Nicholls responding well to his partner’s call, it was always going to be a close call with respect to a run-out. India batsman Manish Pandey collected the ball cleanly and threw straight into Rahul’s hands. However, Rahul fumbling to catch the ball before dislodging the bails saw him losing control of the ball and missing the run-out.
Nicholls, who was batting at 23 at that point in time, continued his top form as an opener as he ended up scoring his 11th ODI half-century, 80 (103), with the help of nine fours.
While Nicholls top-scored for the hosts in a 297-run target, it was all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme whose quickfire fourth ODI half-century sealed the chase in the 48th over. De Grandhomme scored 58* (28) with the help of six fours and three sixes in an 80-run match-winning partnership for the sixth alongside wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham (32*).
Earlier, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson had won the toss and chose to bowl. On the back of Rahul’s fourth ODI century, 112 (113), including nine fours and two sixes, India scored 296/7 in 50 overs. With bowling figures of 10-1-64-4, New Zealand pacer Hamish Bennett was the pick of their bowlers.

Kudos to New Zealand for a remarkably strong comeback after losing 0-5 in the T20 series and whitewashing India. ODIs may not be a priority this year, but such a disappointing, one-sided result was unexpected.

Colin de Grandhomme has spent nearly every net session these last two weeks working on staying very still in his stance & then striking from that solid base, especially with coach Matt Horne. And he’s done just that here. Stayed still and smashed it @cricbuzz @BLACKCAPS
